Cancer-fighting compounds in ginger:
Caffeic acid:
- reported to act as an antioxidant in normal cells but as a pro-oxidant in cancer cells leading to their death
- slows down breast cancer growth by stopping cancer cells division, causing them to die
- associated with the downregulation of a gene responsible for the resistance of cancer to chemotherapy
Gingerols:
- anti-tumour and anti-metastatic effects
- slows down and regulates the growth and migration of cancer cells, especially in triple-negative breast cancer
- has a potential to contribute to breast cancer prevention
Shogaols:
- obstruct breast cancer cell invasion
- decrease cancer development and progression
- show significant anticancer effects on breast cells
